Most data centres are low-rise, so facade and office glazing is water-fed pole or boom lift from grade. The demanding work is on the roof and around the mechanical yard: coil and louvre cleaning at height on equipment platforms, requiring fall protection, careful hose routing, and often equipment shutdown coordinated with operations.
Every access plan has to preserve emergency and service routes — generator access, fuel delivery, switchgear doors, and fire lanes — and equipment placement is agreed in advance rather than decided on site, since an unexpected lift position can block a critical route.

There are few people in the building, so the impact is on equipment and process rather than comfort. The important courtesy is procedural: notice through the right channel, a crew list that does not change without warning, and a work method that operations has reviewed and can predict.
In colocation facilities there is a second audience — tenants who audit the site. A clean mechanical yard, clear drainage, and documented maintenance records support those audits, which is often the strongest business case for keeping the exterior program funded.
Lead the scope with mechanical hygiene — intake louvres, screens, and coils — as named line items with methods and pressures specified, then treat facade and glass as secondary. Require change-management submission as a contract condition, define the water containment and exclusion zones around penetrations and intakes, and specify the reporting record needed to support tenant audits.
